Buy a Zune80, Get 2 Months Zune Pass Free

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Buy & Sell" @ 12:30 PM

http://https://zunestore.net/us/cat...03(ZuneCatalog)

I got an e-mail from Zune today with the subject line "[my Zune Tag], You & Zune go way back". Enclosed was this picture:

I'm not sure if anyone else recieved a variation of this e-mail, but right now on Zune.net, if you buy a regularly-priced Zune 80 ($230), they'll throw in two months of Zune Pass free. Pretty cool, eh?

Mixview: Now on Zune.net

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Talk" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.zune.net/en-US/

"If you're curious what Mixview looks like, but haven't yet installed the Zune Software, check this out: you can now preview mixview while you're connected to the web, via zune.net. Now when you click on the page for an album, artist, or Zune Card, you can click the link "mixview" to check it out. If you're already running the Zune software, this is a great way to give your friends a chance to check Zune out!"

Well this is certainly cool; a nice way to show off the Mixview feature to friends or people without the 3.0 software. The web version provides similar functionality as its desktop counterpart, and is a neat way to visualize the relationships between your favorite artists. It runs on Microsoft's Silverlight web framework, which calls to mind an issue I have with the Zune Cards themselves. Namely, that they're still running on Flash, Silverlight's competitor. Lately I've been attempting to port the ZuneCard data to Silverlight, and hopefully I'll have a working prototype up and running shortly. But in the meantime, you can amaze your friends and humble your enemies with this cool web-based music service. Check it out on Zune.net.

10 Zune Tips

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Articles & Resources" @ 10:00 PM

http://forums.zune.net/47993/ShowPost.aspx

Well, Tip Tuesday sure fell off hard. I guess there just aren't enough good tips at this stage in the Zune's life (in other words I was too lazy to keep it going), but rest assured that we'll keep posting tips as we receive them. For now, enjoy this set of 10 great tips from Zune.net forum member khu.

Including such classic hits as:
  1. Store content on Zune but not on PC
  2. Drag and drop from explorer to Collection
  3. Copy by Playlist
  4. Import playlist
  5. View your playcount
  6. Shuffle...then shuffle more...
  7. Zoom for that closeup
  8. Use quicklist to repeat a single song
  9. RDS and the FM Radio
  10. Find location of file
Props and much love to khu for the detailed explanations. Got any more tips? Post 'em in our forums or the Zune.net forums.

Restricted Words in ZuneCard Status Field

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Sites & Resources" @ 03:00 PM

The Zune Card is undoubtedly cool. You can set your own profile and background picture, in addition to selecting a custom status to describe how you're currently feeling (as if your last five played songs weren't enough of an indicator). Unfortunately, there are a few "no-no" words you can't put in your status. Most of them are fairly obvious (the "_-word", certain bodily parts and functions, and things like "Microsoft" and "Support"), but a few of them seem to be going a bit over the top. For instance, if I'm listening to to Jerry Lee Lewis' famous "Great Balls of Fire", it won't allow me to say so. I can't even say "I love my Zune!" without it throwing up a hissy-fit. It's interesting, because it recognizes some substitute letters but not others (e.g. $ for s, \/ for v, 1 for l, or * as substitute for any letter).

It's interesting to note that while "Xbox" and "Windows" are blocked (though not "XP" or "Vista"), "PlayStation", "Apple", "OSX", or even "iPod" are not. The only non-Microsoft trademark they block? "Linux."
