New Egg Zune Clearance Sale

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune News" @ 01:39 PM

http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemai...-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA

Looking for a good deal on a Zune? Reader inteller has spotted a flier from New Egg that's currently promoting the Zune 4 on clearance for $120.99. That's a pretty good price and I considered pulling the trigger for a moment. I discovered, however, that the only color that is getting this price treatment is the pink model. But still, if you want a Pink Zune 4, then that's a pretty good price. Thanks inteller!

Zune Gets Some Extra Bling

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Hardware" @ 09:20 PM

http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9772549-1.html

"It seems almost pathetic in light of yesterday's gigantic iFest, but Microsoft is still puttering along with its own bits of news about the Zune. A day after its announced price cut, for example, the company continues to make branding partnerships such as one with fashion magazine Nylon for a limited edition of the MP3 player."

I think I've officially lost count of the number of Zune colours and designs on the market - there's got to be at least a dozen by now if you count all of the limited edition and custom designs. According to this Crave article, there are going to be 1000 of these Zunes made. If you like pink, and bling, you might want to start hunting on eBay in a few weeks.

Promo Background Images for Your Zune

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Media" @ 02:38 AM

The Meet Zune section of Zune.net features a promo image of the different coloured Zune devices and a fruity mix of background images. Four of the background images have been made publicly available, courtesy of Zune Insider, and we've resized them to 240 x 320 for your consumption. You can find them after the break. Simply right-click an image and select "Save Picture As...". Next, sync the image to your Zune and follow these steps to set it as your new background. Enjoy!

Update: We've added the red koi background image, so all five are now available after the break.

Pink Zune is #2

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Hardware" @ 03:00 PM

http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/microsoft/archives/115766.asp

"This may indicate strong demand for the color pink, or a lack of demand for the existing Zune colors, but whatever the cause, the "limited edition" pink Zune has become the second-best seller in the product lineup, Microsoft said today in its monthly update on its music device. The pink version, released earlier this month, is outselling white and brown, according to the company. That makes it second only to black."

No, I've never been a fan of pink technology, but I do find this news thoroughly unsurprising. After black, I'd say pink is probably the second most popular color of anything. In my opinion, the only reason why MS even released a white Zune (and subsequently why anyone ever bought one) is because the iPod is white. And the only reason why anyone ever bought a white iPod was because for a while they were only available in that color. Microsoft should have released a pink Zune for the very get-go. Now if they would just consider a stainless-steel Zune... ;-)

Win a Pink Zune!

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune Talk" @ 05:15 PM

http://trent.blogspot.com/2007/05/win-your-very-own-pink-flavored-zune.html

"So ... I figure that since Zune is all about sharing tunes with your friends I'd come up with a photo submission contest where readers send in pictures of them Sharing the Lurve with their friends. To enter, send in a pinkified photo of you and your friends Sharing the Lurve (obvs, in an appropriate manner). It could be a picture of you and your friends at a party, a wedding, a vacation ... you name it! As long as there is a pink element to the photo you'll be eligible for the random drawing for one limited edition Pink Zune MP3 Player."

As you can see, Pink Is The New Blog is running a contest to give away a pink Zune to one lucky pink loving person. To get all of the details on the contest, go read the full blog post. If you're so inclined, let us see the pictures you take for the contest and definitely let us know if you win!

Back in the Saddle: Here's a Zune News Round-up

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Talk" @ 09:08 PM

Ever since going to CTIA to cover the show for Microsoft, I've been trying to get caught up on email - and building a new computer and reviewing it all in a few days only served to slow me down. At any rate, I'm back in the saddle again (to quote a great Aerosmith song), and here's some of the latest news on the Zune front from the past week:

  • The Pink Zune is Official: we knew this was coming, but Microsoft has confirmed that the light pink Zune is official and they're only going to make 100,000 of them. Here's what it looks like.
  • The "Watermelon Red" Zune is Unofficial: There have been rumours of a "vibrant" coloured Zune coming out, and it seems that colour is a vibrant red. People were convinced it was going to be an orange Zune, but I had a hunch that wasn't it. There are also rumours about the red Zune coming pre-loaded with sports content - an interesting twist.
  • EMI Music on Zune Marketplace Will Be DRM-Free: Once EMI announced they'd start selling music via iTunes without DRM, it was a short leap of logic to realize that this would be coming to other music stores. That means that, likely within the next month or two, we'll see the Zune Marketplace start to offer DRM-free music from EMI. It would be useful if the Zune Marketplace could sort by record label so we could see all the EMI tracks in one location, but that might be too much to ask. Will they be 256 kbps AAC files just like iTunes? Quite possibly. How much will they be? Regular songs are 79 points right now - so will they be 99 points? If you don't want to wait you can go to iTunes today and buy the non-DRM music in AAC format and put it on your Zune. Has anyone tried this yet?
  • Microsoft is Pondering Free Zune with Subscription Program: This is one of those small comments that has been blown out of proportion. Jason Reindorp, Microsoft's Zune marketing director, was "thinking aloud" and saying that the Zune team is exploring all options. Through the "magic" of the Internet, that turned into a flurry of "Microsoft to Give Away Zunes for Free" stories. This isn't a new idea - Napster started doing this last year, and when you consider the way prices on Flash memory have completely fallen into the toilet, the timing is certainly right for Microsoft to take this step. But are they ready for it? The first generation Zune still has so many problems, and is lacking so many features, that one has to wonder if it makes sense to launch new distribution business models before getting the basics down.
Comments? Which of these news items are you most excited about as a Zune owner?

EB Games Releasing Light Pink Zune?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Hardware" @ 11:36 AM

http://www.cliczune.com/2007/03/pink_zune_on_ma.html

Coming right out of left field, we have what appears to be a light pink Zune being offered soon by EB Games. If this mock-up is any indication, the pink Zune being offered is a much lighter colour than the "hot pink" one offered earlier. The folks over at cliczune said they talked with someone from EB Games who confirmed it for them. Is this an exclusive? Or a new colour soon to be available everywhere? I have no idea - I guess we'll wait and see!

Limited Edition Pink Zunes Revealed

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Hardware" @ 09:00 AM

http://zuneinfo.com/microsoft-zune/pink-zune-for-sale/

"For those of you who remember our post about the limited edition pink Zune, which was given has a thank-you present to the Zune team, and only them. If you were one of the people to go pink with envy and wished you could get your hands on one of these for your much loved wife or girlfriends, you are in luck! Apparently Microsoft has put 100 of these out in the wild, complete with a certificate stating just that. One lucky shopper managed to pick one up at Circuit City and has now put it up for sale on eBay."

Remember those pink Zunes? Apparently, Microsoft slipped a hundred of these limited edition devices out into the open. There's a catch, though. They're all in standard boxes (showing a brown, white, or black Zune), so Microsoft is playing a game of deception here. While one of these candy-coloured Zunes can fetch more than $249 on eBay, I can't help but think that a few buyers would be pretty peeved when they open the box and discover that they didn't get what they wanted.

So, pink and orange ones for the Zune team, eh? It's no Product (Red), that's for sure.
