One thing that constantly impresses me about the Zune-artist relationship is that it doesn't come off as feeling forced. Apple has genuine fans and musicians that talk their products up at any opportunity. Microsoft tends to be the exact opposite, and, at least in the computer world, is seen as a gigantic megaconglomorate. Either Microsoft is paying these artists a huge sum of money for their compliance, or it's genuinely generating goodwill. We've already seen it happening with the Xbox, is Zune next?
About the devices: I was wondering when the special editions (non-Originals) would show up, but I wasn't expecting them to look so...tacky. Stefan at IHaveAZune.com (nee IWAPZ) thinks
the back looks too much like a sticker. Though he later found that it's a screen-printing like the last gen, I still don't think it fits as nicely with the rest of the design. It also makes me wonder how they screen-print so well on the metal backing.
