Amazon Lands Warner Music Group Albums for MP3 Store

"Amazon today landed a coup by announcing the availability of Warner Music Group albums on Amazon MP3. The store becomes the first to offer music from the label in a universal format without digital rights management (DRM), permitting buyers to copy tracks an unlimited number of times and to play them on most any device, including those with limited access to online music stores such as the iPod and Zune lines. The addition brings Amazon's library up to 2.9 million songs, all without restrictions and at a relatively high quality 256Kbps bitrate, according to the company."

This is definitely a big deal, because the main knock against Amazon's MP3 store was the fact that it just didn't have a lot of music. 2.9 million songs is a healthy number, and while it still pales in comparison with iTunes (which is more than double that now), it's definitely a step in the right direction. I'd be happier though if I could buy songs from it: Amazon closed a loophole in their system that allowed non-US buyers to purchase tracks, so now all I can do is look and wish...
