Zune "Live at the BBQ" Event in NYC

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Zune Events" @ 12:32 PM

The following story was written up by Jeremy Charette from our sister site, Digital Media Thoughts. Looks like he had fun! And we should have another write-up about this event coming from a member of our Zune Thoughts community, so watch for that!

Today Microsoft hosted another Zune Live at the BBQ event, here in New York City. The location was very hush hush until yesterday. It was held at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, right under the Brooklyn Bridge, in the East River. Gorgeous location, and the weather was absolutely perfect. Mid 80s, sunny, with a light breeze coming off the river. Read more...

Zune Parties: Too Much Too Soon?

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Talk" @ 08:00 PM

"Zune, Zune, Zune. Anyone who attended Sigma Alpha Epsilon's Saturday night shindig saw Zune everywhere. Hanging on the walls, giant posters screamed Zune. Partygoers received glowsticks with the Zune name all over them. Professional photographers and a man with a video camera filmed Penn students as they partied down. This wasn't normal sticky floor SAE party. Microsoft sponsored this soire. Microsoft recently revamped its Zune mp3 player, trying to take a bite out of the iPod's success. However, name recognition is low, and Microsoft is trying to create a buzz. College campuses are a main target."

Microsoft's marketing strategy lately has been "Party Hearty! Woo-hoo!", and I have to say I'm starting to find it mildly offensive. Why can't you just plaster a subway station like a good PMP maker? What do you think? Is Microsoft's strategy a good one, or one that's sure to fail (or at least backfire horribly)?

Shots of the Seattle Launch

"A Zune is born this day. This morning, Bill Gates bounced on stage, in Zune jacket and all, and introduced Zune to a crowd of enthusiastic Seattleites. Bill was preceded on stage by Secret Machines, who played a short set. We had breakfast with the Zune team, along with some lucky contest winners, and with Ben, Brandon, and Josh from Secret Machines."

It looked pretty cold in Seattle yesterday, but that wasn't going to stop the people gathering to see what Bill Gates and the Zune team had up their sleeves. Harvey from Zunerama snapped a few shots of the action. Head over there for a look.
