I'm Selling These Web Sites, Moving to the USA, and I Got a Job Working for HTC. Any Questions?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Status Updates" @ 08:00 AM

I've been writing and re-writing this post in my head over the past couple of months, and that headline was the best I could come up with. It's not easy to encapsulate one of the most significant changes in my life in a single sentence. Now let's unpack that bombshell I've just dropped...

The HTC Job

I've been working with HTC, the mobile phone and tablet maker, since August 1st of this year. Being a long-time fan of Microsoft's efforts in the mobile space - and largely tying my career to those efforts, for better or worse - I've watched HTC grow from being a nameless, brandless, tiny Taiwanese ODM making Palm-sized PCs/Pocket PCs to the mobile powerhouse they are today. I've always had tremendous admiration for HTC as a company and loved their products, so when someone I knew from Microsoft got a job with HTC in late 2010, I reached out and we started talking. The rest, as they say, is history. I believe HTC is uniquely positioned to do some amazing things in the mobile space over the next few years and I'm excited to be a part of it!

Thoughts Media is currently a vendor for HTC USA, and come October 1st, I'll be a full-time employee. I have an H1B work visa, and after closing the sale of my house this weekend (phew!), I'll be moving in the near future to the Bellevue, Washington area with my wife, our two year old son and our dog, and starting my new career. To add a little extra stress into my life, we're also building a new house and will be in temporary lodging until it's finished. Oh, did I mention this is the first corporate job I've held in 13 years? This is the single biggest career transition I've ever gone through. Read more...

Happy Birthday to Jason Dunn!

Posted by Darius Wey in "Thoughts Media Status Updates" @ 07:03 PM

Our fearless leader, Jason, celebrated his birthday today, so please join me in wishing him a very happy birthday. With our server hiccups in the morning, it perhaps wasn't the best start to the day, but with that resolved, I'm sure the day only got better. Jason, thanks for all that you do in helping make Thoughts Media the best community to discuss all things that beep and blink. If you'd like to thank and wish Jason a happy birthday in a more tangible manner, or simply find out what makes him tick, take a look at his Amazon wish list.

Now, let's serve some cake!

CES 2011: Chris Pirillo Interviews Jason Dunn

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Talk" @ 03:30 PM

This is an interview I did with Chris Pirillo from Lockergnome. I'm usually the one doing the interview, but this time around it was Chris asking me questions. Chris was at CES as part of the launch of Reese's Minis - which are, seriously, perhaps the most delicious chocolate candy I've ever eaten. I'm a complete sucker for peanut butter and chocolate together!

And this is also the first time I've published a video here where I'm in front of the camera. Be nice please. :-) It's not HD because the video was streaming live and they had to keep the data rate under 2mbps - CES might be technology heaven, but it's virtually impossible to get a fast, stable Internet connection of any kind from the CES show floor.

Yours Truly Chats with Ian Dixon on The Media Center Show

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 01:30 PM

http://thedigitallifestyle.com/cs/b...kmarklet-custom

A week or two ago, I spent an hour chatting with Ian Dixon from The Media Center Show, and today he's published the podcast. I really enjoy being a guest on a podcast because expressing myself - hopefully intelligibly - is something I enjoy, but I don't particularly want to tackle the work involved in producing a regular podcast. If you have a podcast, and you'd like to have me on as a guest to discuss, well, pretty much anything, drop me a line.

In this episode, Ian and I talk about the Zune HD, Windows phone 7, and the way these two products intersect - as well as my prediction that 2010 is going to be a great year for Microsoft because all of their different assets (Xbox, Zune, mobile, Live) will finally come together the right way.

Have a listen and tell me what you think!

Happy Birthday to Jason Dunn!

Posted by Darius Wey in "Thoughts Media Status Updates" @ 03:00 AM

What a year it's been for our fearless leader! He welcomed a little one into the family, and much to his delight (for the most part), Windows Phone 7 finally came to fruition. And now it's that time of the year, so please join me in wishing him a very happy birthday! His passion for technology is clearly visible in his writings, unboxings, and video reviews across all of the Thoughts Media sites, and it's that passion that helps keep Thoughts Media growing year after year. Thanks for all that you do, Jason! If you'd like to thank and wish Jason a happy birthday in a more tangible manner, or simply find out what makes him tick, take a look at his Amazon wish list.

Cake, anyone?

I'm a Father: Say Hello to Logan Robert Dunn

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 05:30 PM

Going back a few years, the various Thoughts Media sites that were around had a bit more of a personal touch to them - I'd commonly post on things that were going on in my life. As the sites grew and got to be more news-focused, I haven't done many of those personal posts lately. I'll hope you'll indulge me, because today something very special happened: my son was born.

At 7:20 AM on August the 16th, Logan Robert Dunn came into this world via C-Section. Both mother and baby are doing well. He's 20 inches long, weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces, and was born at the Calgary Foothills hospital. The staff here are great - special thanks to Dr. Paul Martyn for the great job he did on the surgery. This is a wonderful blessing, and I'm humbled and awed that God would give us such a beautiful baby to care for and raise. More pics over at my personal blog.

Jason on The Media Center Show: Zune HD, Xbox Live, Zune Phone

Posted by Adam Krebs in "Zune Talk" @ 06:00 PM

Ian Dixon interviews Zune Thoughts' own Jason Dunn to discuss why the Zune HD is truly an HD device, media center interoperability, and integration with Xbox 360. Just like last time, Jason and Ian have a great back-and-forth banter and are very informed on tech trends of the day. Check it out!

Ian Dixon Interviews Jason Dunn

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune News" @ 07:45 AM

http://iandixon.spaces.live.com/blo...3EA9!3087.entry

"This week I am talking Jason Dunn from ZuneThoughts.com a great resource for Zune owners. Earlier this year the Zune firmware and software was updated and I talk to Jason about what’s new on the Zune devices and the updated Zune desktop software."

Yesterday, Ian Dixon released the latest podcast of "The Media Center Show". The interview was with someone you may be familiar with, our own senior editor, Jason Dunn. (If you're not familiar with Jason, well, then welcome to Zune Thoughts!)

Ian and Jason spend an hour talking about the Zune G3 updates. If you're looking for a new podcast to add to your rotation, Ian's looks like a good one but at the least you should follow this link to listen to the interview!

Windows Vista Hardware from AMD & Microsoft: Here’s My Story

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 02:15 PM

http://www.jasondunn.com/windows-vista-hardware-90

"There’s a big blow-up about Microsoft “bribing” bloggers, so I figured I’d better get on the record now before someone accuses me of “hiding” something. On the 22nd of December I made a comment on my blog about receiving a new piece of hardware, but I mentioned that I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to talk about it yet - because the hardware wasn’t released yet and not up on the OEMs Web site for sale. Obviously now that this story has gone public, I can, so here’s the story."

This isn't exactly on-topic for Zune Thoughts, but I felt that the issue was important enough (since it involves my personal integrity) that I should step up and make sure everyone knows the history of this issue and my stance on it. It's a very long post (I started working on it yesterday), but I think it covers everything about this issue. Comments here (or there) are welcome.
