Convert iTunes Playlists for Zune

Posted by David Tucker in "Zune News" @ 11:30 AM

http://jakebillo.com/itunes-to-zune...list-converter/

"There, that wasn’t too hard, was it? Lastly, it’s important to remember that this only works if the iTunes library and the Zune library in question are drawing from the same media files! That means that you should have the Zune jukebox software set to monitor the iTunes music folder that you are drawing from, so that the same files are referenced in both programs’ libraries. This little hack worked well for me, and allowed me to load my Zune with playlists created in iTunes, without having to try and use the gimped Zune rating system and autoplaylists to do so."

Are you not a fan of the playlists in the Zune software? I’ve never had an issue myself but I know that plenty of people out there don’t like the playlists that Microsoft has given us. Jake Billo’s Weblog has a convenient little program (written by Jon Fritz) that will allow you to copy your iTunes playlists into your Zune software. I don’t use iTunes but if you have it and want to try it out, let us know how it works!

Transcoding DVR-MS Video for the Zune

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Content Creation & Management" @ 04:00 PM

http://drewhill.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!3367A907FEE0AE3F!258.entry

"One of the coolest features of the Zune is the ability to watch video and when coupled with Windows Media Center content is limitless... Windows Media Center produces MPEG2 (dvr-ms) video at 30fps, 8250 Kbs, 720x480 resolution and is currently not supported by the Zune. To get this video to work, it must first be transcoded to one of the supported format mentioned above. There are many utilities on the internet that can do this conversion."

Yes, there are a basquillion utilities on the internet that can do this conversion. Which one did the author choose? The $99.95 TMPGEnc Xpress on the advicee of Zunester.com. Now, I'm sure TMPGEnc Xpress is a great program and works well, but I think I would rather buy a different PMP than spend $100 just so I could get video on it. So tell me, what program/utility did you settle on? What did you end up paying for it?

River Past's Crazi Video for the Zune

Posted by Damion Chaplin in "Zune Software" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.riverpast.com/en/prod/crazivideo/zune/

"Zune put all of your favorite video, music, and pictures at your fingertips wherever you are. It is Microsoft's follow-up to the PMC effort. With a large 3 inch LCD, it is better suited for video playback than iPod. However, you probably have found that Windows Media Player doesn't accept all the video in your collection. River Past Crazi Video for Zune is the easiest way to put your video on your Portable Media Center."

Another day, another Zune video converter. If you're still looking for something that will convert your videos to the Zune, Crazi Video might be what you're looking for. I downloaded the trial (limits you to a 2-minute encode) and found it gave me OK results. I did feel the picture was a little too compressed and showed a little too much artifacting. However, that may be something you're willing to put up with for the convenience it allows.

Is a Zune to iPod Converter Cable In Our Future?

Posted by Aaron Roma in "Zune Accessories" @ 08:06 PM

http://www.slashgear.com/zune-to-ipod-cable-in-very-early-stages-of-gestation-024162.php

"A common complaint levelled at Microsoft’s Zune is the relative scarcity of aftermarket accessories like speaker-docks and charging cables compared to the better-established iPod. Obviously it would’ve been too much to hope that Microsoft and Apple could’ve worked together for the good of the consumer, so we’ll have to rely on enterprising enthusiasts instead. The guys and gals over at Zuney.net have set themselves the goal of not only producing a pin-out diagram for the Zune’s connector, but constructing a Zune to iPod cable too."

While this project is still in its early stages, it is an interesting concept. A small converter cable that would allow you to use iPod accessories with your Zune could be convenient. I would think that such a device would be most beneficial to someone that previously owned an iPod and accessories and is wishing to migrate to a Zune, more so than someone looking to purchase new accessories. Obviously the selection of Zune accessories doesn't come close to that of the iPod, personally I can't think of any particular accessory available for an iPod that I don't have an available option for my Zune. Is there any particular iPod accessory that you would use such a converter for?

Zuneguy: Yet Another DVR-MS Editor

Posted by Darius Wey in "Zune Software" @ 02:30 PM

http://www.zuneguy.com/2007/01/yet-another-dvr-ms-editor.html

"I've mentioned in the past that I've used DVRMS Toolbox to convert my DVR-MS files to MPEG and then I edit using a variety of tools to get it in the right format. Well, that particular product also promised to cut commercials out automatically. But, alas, I never was able to get that feature working for me. Well...I happened upon another version of the product from Media Made Easy. It even turns out that have a 10' UI (sort of)."

Here's another DVR-MS editor discovery by Bill Wittress, a.k.a. Zuneguy, and it promises to rid those recordings of commercials. Bill confirms that it works, so if you're wanting to do the same, give it a go today.
