“A little New Mexico town that is known for its history is now helping to shape the future. Fort Sumner, New Mexico hasn’t made news since Billy the Kid was buried there in 1881 but it is back in the headlines today for it’s progressive use of digital technology in education.”

Luke Walker of the Media Ramblings blog has done a great write-up about Fort Summer, New Mexico’s Zune program. While any MP3 player would do an ok job of this, the Zune definitely has the features to make it very effective in the classroom. The primary one is, of course, the much maligned sharing feature. What could you use this for?

I’d say the limit is the imagination. Lesson plans, syllabi, presentations and lectures are just a few options. If this experiment results in higher test scores then New Mexico plans to expand the program. As a fan of technology in general I think this is great. That they’re using the Zune is just icing on the cake!
